Papers of David W. Farmer

Newest papers are listed first. Papers denoted ``preliminary version'' are not in final form and generally are missing some references and background material. Papers denoted ``preprint'' are complete and have been submitted to a journal.

Also listed below are some unpublishable papers on various mathematical topics. Some give the details of calculations which were left out of a paper, and some are of independent interest.

Differentiation evens out zero spacings. (Postscript) (DVI). It is shown that the zeros of the derivative of a polynomial are more evenly distributed than the zeros of the original polynomial.

Practice with the Euler-Maclaurin formula. (Postscript) (DVI). Stirling's formula and related asymptotic formulas are derived from the Euler--Maclaurin formula. These formulas were required for the paper Mean values of L-functions and symmetry

Poisson Summation and Riemann's Nondifferentiable Function . (Postscript) (DVI). The Poisson summation formula is used to analyze the behavior of Riemann's Nondifferentiable Function near a rational number. This was required for the paper Transition mean values of real characters
